My New Draperies

This is a plain old entry tonight. No more videos--at least for awhile. This blog is meant to be a place where I can talk about this, that, and the other thing. Tonight, I've decided to talk about my new draperies.

I finally bought them for my computer room after procrastinating for a long, long time. Ever do that? I measured the window area (44 in. x 84 in.), bought maroon draperies and a rod. I took the draperies to a nearby tailor who did a nice job reducing their length to 44 inches long.

My landlord was going to help me install them, because I was worried about drilling holes in the lathe and plaster wall and making a mess. But he called the morning he was going to install the rod to say he wouldn't be able to do so. His eye doctor had just removed a small cyst from each of his eyelids and stitched them, telling my landlord to take it easy for a week or so.

So I went ahead and installed them myself. I used my masonry bit to drill holes for the plastic screw anchors. Then I screwed in the three brackets. Finally, I ran the rod through the draperies and hung them up. They look great!

These are draperies that have a white, light-blocking material on the exterior side to reduce the amount of sunlight that shines through. I can't believe how dark my computer room now is during the daytime! I open the draperies about 20 inches in the middle to let some sunlight come through.

The beauty of all this is that I can now use my computer all day long, if I want. I use to take off in the afternoons because there was just too much glare. Now I'll take off whenever I want.
